Transport over the years

The photos on this page are from the Swaziland Digital Archives.

1880's and 1890's

Ox wagon crossing the river.

The first steam locomotive in Swaziland, off to a bad start.

As in the "Wild West", horses were a common means of transport.

The British Consul leaving Bremersdorp (Manzini) in 1899, leaving in a mule drawn buggy.

1920's

A motorcycle being used as a portable altar.

Ox wagon

1930's

Horse drawn carts were still common, although presumably, not all horses were required to wear a pith helmet.

The advent of the motorcar.

Ponts were used for crossing major rivers.

The road leaves a bit to be desired?

1950's

The Balegane pont still providing a means of crossing the river.

A Zephyr surges through a drift.

Upgraded from a mule drawn cart?

SG1, the British High Commissioner's car.
